Last week I posted this thread, asking you about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I've found two curiosities. A !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

What say you Oppo? Should I take a look or keep away from both?

Plus I could learn stick on the Saab!

i had a very similar Subaru and loved it. The day Saab send a lot cooler but judging by the writing, the owner is a pain in the ass.

I would say Subaru because I'm biased. I love Subarus. BUT if the Saab is a stick, go with that.

Of these two, get the Legacy. The Saab looks trashed and not well taken care of at all. But then the Legacy has a leak in the air intake.

I'd personally look for something else, both seem a little iffy.

I know next to nothing about car mechanics, so could you explain a leaking air intake to me and what that can cause?

you know next to nothing about car mechanics? get something more reliable than either of these. For the love of everything, don't buy a saab if you can't fix cars

This should explain everything to you.

A Saab, but not THAT Saab. If you know nothing about cars, buying an old Saab is like learning to swim by diving in the deep end...very rewarding if you get it right, but you'll regret getting in over your head. Honestly, I think I'd pass on both of these cars. Both awesome in theory, but looking at these particular examples in practice...meh. $2,000 should buy better examples of both cars.

I'm a helicopter mechanic. Half my friends are good with cars. A small reason I'd be buying it would be to learn.

My Mazda6.

alright go nuts then, but I'd still suggest something other than these two. what are you looking for exactly in a learning project?

I'm stuck to looking to a 240 mile radius of where I am, in Kansas. My options are limited and my requirements don't help.

Ft. Riley, I'm assuming? I turned wrenches on planes in the AF, but have visited Ft. Riley a few times in my civilian job- does the post have an auto hobby shop? We had one at Ellsworth AFB and I learned a LOT there. I understand you're limited in your local market but expanding your search out and driving out to, say Kansas City on a weekend might be a good idea. BTW, good on you for keeping your max spend at $4k- I saw too many E1s—->E4s get in over their heads with a car payment.

PS Manhattan, KS is a surprisingly great little college town.

Something I can fix up in time to use as a winter beater and then autocross during the rest of the year thus the Subaru.

Well, you mention you've got a Mazda6 already- get something with a stick, no matter what it is. Learn that skill.

Yep, Ft. Riley. I'm not sure if it does. I already have a car payment, but I'm able to make ends meet on it. This car is more a project/winter beater/autocross toy than a daily.

ask him to specify what "air intake leak" is, I'm guessing its a split manifold because a leak in the intake inlet pipe would take all of a minute to fix.

I'm going to send a message tomorrow and find out the details on the car.

I asked him about what it meant. He said it's got old vacuum hoses and believe it leaks from there. There's no check engine light on.

vacuum leaks can be a major major bitch to try and track down. If you're willing to go through all the hoses and try to find out what is leaking by all means go for its. Its just tedious work.

So I might have to bring that one to the mechanic if six helicopter mechanics can't find it.

Pick up a mityvac, it should help you track down leaks. Watch a few tutorials on youtube to.
